Guardian Consent Notice

What parents and guardians agree to when a child joins OpenSTEM Help.

Last updated: October 15, 2026

A parent or legal guardian must read and accept this notice before a child (student or mentor) can participate. Consent is collected during sign-up.

1. What your child is joining

OpenSTEM Help is a free peer-mentoring programme in which high-school student volunteers help students in grades 6–8 with Math, Science, Coding and Robotics. Mentors are also minors, approved by our team, and are not professional teachers or child-care providers.

2. By giving consent, you confirm that

  • You are the parent or legal guardian of the child and have authority to consent.
  • You have read our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Child Safety Policy.
  • You consent to us collecting and using your child's information as described in the Privacy Policy.
  • You understand sessions are coordinated by the platform and may take place online, including through Daily.co if enabled.
  • You will supervise your child's participation, and for online sessions, be present or nearby where appropriate for their age.
  • You will not share session links or allow your child to move contact outside the platform.

3. Information we share with mentors

Only the details needed for a session: the child's first name or preferred name, grade, subject and topic. Contact details for the family are not shared with mentors.

4. Recording

Sessions are not recorded by default. We will ask for separate written consent before any recording takes place, and mentors, students and families may not record sessions without it.

5. Your controls

  • View, correct or delete your child's information
  • Withdraw consent and close the account at any time
  • Ask us questions or raise concerns about any session or mentor

Withdraw consent or make requests at help@openstemhelp.com. If consent is withdrawn, your child's participation ends and their information is deleted subject to the retention rules in our Privacy Policy.

6. If your child is a mentor

You also consent to your child applying, being reviewed by our team, delivering sessions in line with the Mentor Agreement, and having volunteer hours logged and verified.

7. Concerns

If you have a safety concern, email help@openstemhelp.com.
